Having jumped solo, I’d like to add that your chute is already released before you leave the plane, this would be catastrophic.
You actually need to leave the plane before a cord, anchored to a ring bolt in the floor of the plane and attached to the back of your chute, releases the chute when you have left the plane several seconds before.
